Álvaro Barbosa (Angola 1970), is an Academic and a Media Arts & Technology (MAT) Researcher based in Macao, SAR-China. He is a Full-Professor of Communication and Media, and presently the Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). Prior to his present position, Prof. Barbosa served as Dean of the Faculty of Creative Industries at USJ from 2012 to 2018, and before that as Head of the School of Arts Sound and Image Department at the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP), where he retains a permanent Professorship affiliation. Holding a PhD degree in Computer Science and Digital Communication from Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and a Undergraduate Degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from University of Aveiro in Portugal, his core academic research is grounded on the field of Audio and Music Technology Innovation, which he consolidated in 2010 during a Post-Doctoral Research Position at Stanford University‘s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). As an Experimental Media Artist, His artwork has been extensivelly presented internationally, in live music performances and Interactive multimedia Installations, collaborating with numerous Artists and Researchers.
